What Makes Worship Distinctly Anglican in a World of Liturgical Change?
- Course Dates: Tue 14 June 2016, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Church of England worship has gone through fifty years of change.
It has moved from uniformity of worship with the 1662 Book of Common Prayer, through experimental services and alternative services to Common Worship, which is itself an invitation to embrace variety, diversity and spontaneity. English Anglicans have adopted words, symbols and styles from other denominations, other Anglican provinces and from Emerging Church worship.
Yet is there still a series of principles and practices that are distinctly characteristic of Anglican worship? Do they remain relevant in a fast changing Church? What would be lost if they disappeared? The aim of this day is to explore these questions and to understand what value there is in having a clear sense of what today makes worship Anglican.
