The Bible on Film
- Course Dates: Tue 11 June 2019, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

According to the film pundits the 1950s were the golden years of the Hollywood biblical epics.
Many will remember Charlton Heston as an angst-driven Moses in the Ten Commandments (1956). Then came Ben Hur (1959), King of Kings (1961) and The Greatest Story ever told (1965). These films were massive Hollywood epics on a huge cinematic scale with large production budgets casting many of the leading stars of the day.
In our time there has been something of a revival of the biblical epic beginning with Mel Gibson’s controversial the Passion of Christ (2004). More recently, The Exodus: Gods and Kings (2014) and Noah (2014) with Russell Crowe as the ecologically minded firebrand prophet.
During this study day we will examine and discuss the range of interpretations of the Jesus story brought to us by film and we will reflect on the way film portrays biblical stories and themes.
