Drawing from personal experience of coming to a halt in ministry, Paul shares insights into human nature.
Leadership, whatever form it takes, carries the potential for both tremendous privilege and enormous personal cost. Paul’s experience of leading a church whilst suffering ill health led to a deep encounter with his own human fragility through break down. This prompted him to look again at the ‘Who We Are’ of leadership rather than the ‘What We do’. Beginning with this story of brokenness through to restoration, this course then offers practical guidelines not only for surviving but thriving in ministry. Working towards transparency and authenticity, we will look at issues including our Identity and Self-awareness as leaders; how to find a balance between the inflow and outflow of life and ministry; recognising the danger signs when stress becomes distressed; discovering what resources are available for the journey and how to journey on with hope. The hope is that course participants will be encouraged to take steps in discovering who they are in their weaknesses so that they can give themselves permission to use the tools provided to look after themselves in such a way that their ministry will be sustainable in the long run.
