Science and Religion: Ugly Sisters in a Suffering World?
- Course Dates: Sat 24 March 2018, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

Do humans suffer because of power struggles to dominate by sciences, technologies, religions, faiths and associated economic and cultural globalisations?
While science-based technologies have sought to serve human needs, religious faiths have sought to provide values and cultural identities. But these major drivers of human affairs are not always successful and there is now much confusion and much anxiety about future outcomes.
Fortunately history demonstrates that humans can be very creative, resilient and realistic in the right environments for human flourishing.
This one-day course will focus on defining characteristics of science and religion, including their strengths and weaknesses. Does science drive global warfare? Does religion drive global hatred? Is there some way in which the”ugly sisters” can better work together?
Course participants will explore future challenges and consider some realistic good options and actions for human flourishing.
