The Binding of Isaac
- Course Dates: Thu 23 March 2017, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

Only nineteen verses in the bible, the interpretations of the near sacrifice of Isaac by Abraham in Genesis 22 have filled many books.
“Sacrifice, what it means to sacrifice and what we are allowed to sacrifice and what we are not allowed to sacrifice are themes that fascinated generations and cultures both near and far. The inherent moral ambiguity in the story of the ‘good’ Abraham being willing to sacrifice his son has dumbfounded many commentators. The absence of Sarah has inspired not only critique but also re-telling in different guises.”
During this day we will re-read the story in detail and be inspired by many interpreters through the ages, Jews and Christians, both in the written word and in art. We will search for the resonances with sacrifice in our own culture and life.
