Path of the Heart, Path of the Mind? Entering St Teresa of Avila’s ‘Interior Castle’
- Course Dates: Wed 18 October 2017, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

St Teresa of Avila (1515 to 1582) offers a way of contemplative prayer as valid today as it was 500 years ago.
During this day we shall explore this path paying particular attention to how Teresa offers us a mindful path towards the healing of the self: mind, body and soul.
‘The important thing’, she writes,’ is not to think much but to love much’ and we shall follow her advice as we enter the Interior Castle of the soul guided by her gentle and humane writings. Teresa talks of four conditions necessary to enter this ‘castle’: silence, poverty of spirit, discernment of spirits and freedom of spirit.
We shall explore all four as we work our way through Teresa’s path of Christian mindfulness. As well as studying her texts there will be opportunities for shared prayer sessions and discussion. No prior knowledge is required.
