Pastoral Liturgy Day: A Fresh Approach to the Art of Leading Worship
- Course Dates: Thu 9 May 2019, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

In recent years leadership has become the buzz word in church conversations about renewing patterns of ministry, to the extent that effective leadership is regarded by some as the panacea for declining congregations.
Curiously absent from these discussions is a serious consideration of the vital role liturgical leadership has to play in the local church, or what lessons we can learn from wider contemporary understandings of leadership.
This course is designed to help anyone involved in leading worship rediscover the value of this ministry and its role in the local church. Drawing upon the insights of both liturgical and leadership studies the course will encourage a realistic and enabling vision of the task. Topics discussed will include the chief characteristics of liturgical leadership, insights from organisational studies, the complex and often conflicting mixture of demands and responsibilities the role involves together with its vocational dimensions.
Alongside their educational and academic interests in this subject, the course leaders bring longstanding personal experience of leadership within and beyond churches, including ordained and lay perspectives on leading worship.
