How to Stay Friends and Influence Preachers: Giving Feedback on Sermons
- Course Dates: Thu 3 May 2018, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm

This day is designed for those who listen to sermons, specifically those who might offer feedback to preachers, formally or informally.
It is for spouses and friends, since most preachers say their spouse or close friend is the person they rely on most for feedback. It is for members of the preaching team who want to support each other effectively, particularly but not only when a new preacher joins. It is for church elders, church wardens, in fact all who want to encourage their preachers in their particular vocation.
We will consider what we listen for in sermons, and in doing so will explore the structure and style of sermons. We will think about how the Bible is used and applied. We will consider ways of giving feedback that are constructive, helpful, and honouring of the preacher, and think about how we might create more of a culture of discussing a sermon over the coffee at the end of a service. We will also touch on how we might be able to contribute to a preacher’s preparation of a sermon as well as giving feedback. As a result, we will discover that by thinking more carefully about the preaching task, we as hearers begin to gain more from the sermons we hear.
