Liturgy Seminar – Examining Ritual Practices: A Practical Theological Approach
- Course Dates: Thu 4 June 2015, 10:45 am to 3:00 pm

Ed Foley is Duns Scotus Professor of Spirituality and Professor of Liturgy and Music at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, USA.
Professor Foley has written extensively on the place of music, preaching and the arts in liturgy and contributed to the Wiley-Blackwell Companion in Practical Theology (2013) on ‘Ritual Theory’. He received the 2013 Berakah Award from the North American Academy of Liturgy, in recognition of his distinguished contribution to the professional work of liturgy. His present book, to be published this year, is Theological Reflection across Faith Traditions: The Turn to Reflective Believing (Rowman & Littlefield).
This seminar will explore how the practice of ritual lends itself to examination and research and review approaches to the study of ritual practice and their relationship to theories of ritual. The seminar is open to postgraduate students and others who have an interest in the study of ritual.
