2017 Sarum Lectures – Rose Macaulay: “What a Heritage We Have. I Mean, We Anglicans”
- Course Dates: Thu 4 May 2017, 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm
This Sarum Lecture series, held in partnership with Salisbury Cathedral, will look at four Anglicans from the early twentieth-century Church of England who revived spirituality at a time when people were questioning institutional religion.
This lecture looks at novelist Rose Macaulay. Rose had a deep sense of the Anglican heritage, and the ways in which it was woven into the fabric of English culture and society. She formally converted late in life through her correspondence with an Anglican monk in Massachusetts, America, and developed a strongly sacramental and mystical faith.
Speaker Jane Shaw is Dean for Religious Life and Professor of Religious Studies at Stanford University, and Canon Emerita of Salisbury Cathedral. She was formerly Dean of Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, and Dean of Divinity and Fellow of New College, Oxford.
