2017 Sarum Lectures – Reginald Somerset Ward: Prayer and a Rule of Life
- Course Dates: Tue 2 May 2017, 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm

This Sarum Lecture series, held in partnership with Salisbury Cathedral, will look at four Anglicans from the early twentieth-century Church of England who revived spirituality at a time when people were questioning institutional religion.
This lecture looks at Reginald Somerset Ward, a Church of England priest who was skeptical about the institutional church but nonetheless devoted his whole life to a ‘hidden’ ministry of spiritual direction, encouraging people to have such a robust prayer life that they could take risks and see life as an adventure.
Speaker Jane Shaw is Dean for Religious Life and Professor of Religious Studies at Stanford University, and Canon Emerita of Salisbury Cathedral. She was formerly Dean of Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, and Dean of Divinity and Fellow of New College, Oxford.
