Ecumenism at Work: Methodists and Baptist Leaders Begin Talks at Sarum

An international delegation of Baptist and Methodist pastors and academics begin a week of talks today at Sarum College representing the culmination of five years’ work.

The denominations’ common history and heritage, theological issues, baptism and Christian initiation will be on the agenda, alongside encouraging stories support and cooperation among Baptists and Methodists from around the world.

The International Dialogue team is made up of leaders from the Baptist World Alliance and the World Methodist Council.

“We ask you to hold this meeting in your prayers at this important stage of our discussions together,” said The Rev Dr Tim Macquiban, Director of the Methodist Ecumenical Office Rome, and Co-Chair of the dialogue. “This initiative gives Methodists and Baptists worldwide the opportunity to affirm those things which unite us and to understand more fully those things which we see in different ways. We hope that the report we come to will offer a way forward for our two traditions to work together in unity and mission in God’s world.”

A communique issued at the end of the week of meetings can be read and downloaded here.
