Surprised by Joy or Suppressed by JackSeries of four Thursday evening lectures, 7pm to 9pm on 13, 20, 27 February and 6 March 2014.

These four lectures explore the enduring popularity of CS Lewis (Jack to his family and friends) as a spiritual guide, theologian, writer of science fiction and children’s novels, literary critic and academic, and complex personality.

Each session will concentrate on a particular Lewis theological or biographical work – Mere Christianity, The Four Loves, Surprised by Joy and, in the final session, A Grief Observed and The Problem of Pain – as a way of assessing the inluence of Lewis fifty years after his death.
