This course will focus on twentieth-century British artworks located in churches, chapels and cathedrals, and consider the role they play in modern-day Christianity.
We will examine works such as John Piper’s stained glass, Graham Sutherland’s tapestries, Stanley Spencer’s paintings and Eric Gill’s sculptures. The course will include an excursion into Salisbury to view art in situ.
